Human Health Risks
Factory Farming not only causes issues for animals, workers, and the environment, but for you as well. The animals that live in CAFO's are given huge doses of antibiotics which translates into the food that consumers eat. "In North Carolina alone, the estimated volume of antibiotics used to grow food animals faster exceeds all U.S. use of antibiotics for human medicine."
In order for the farms to make as much profit as possible, they feed the animals in the cheapest possible way. In some of the animal feed traces were found of, "hydrolyzed poultry feathers, by-products of slaughtered animals, inter-species waste such as swine manure and poultry litter, antibiotic drugs, cement dust, newspaper, and plastic roughage replacements." All of these items listed do translate into the food we eat as well.
Currently in the U.S animal products are the number one source of saturated fat in the American diet. Saturated fat is linked to countless other diseases such as Heart Disease and Obesity.
